My earliest memories are of “looking” intently at things of interest to me. The practice of “looking” intensely is the foundation of my photography and the source of my creative vision. What I choose to photograph is not easy to codify. I might be drawn to quirky vignettes of everyday life, a formalist composition, or some other intangible. The shared aesthetic is the need to capture that moment that has the potential for depth and meaning; while simultaneously looking for pictorial compositions to present themselves. “In the City” my focus was capturing iconic moments of “humanity”. I wanted to share depictions of people, or locations in a sympathetic and caring way. This quote by Susan Sontag sums up my philosophy, “To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt”.
